What you actually see

The match opens as a list of rounds. Pick one and it plays back on the map from the buy phase to the end of the round, with a timeline you can scrub and a speed control for when you want to crawl through three seconds of a site take.

Every player is on the map at once, on both teams, with the direction they were looking. That is the part a recording of your own screen can never give you: while you were holding an angle, the other four people on your team and all five on theirs were doing something, and it is all there.

Alongside the map, through the whole round:

• health and shields, changing as damage lands
• the weapon each player is holding
• credits in the bank, and what was spent on this buy
• which abilities were bought and which have been used
• the round clock, spike plant, defuse and detonation
• kills as markers on the timeline, so you can jump straight to a fight

It does not expire

The Valorant client keeps only your recent matches and deletes older ones as new games arrive. That is the single most common reason people go looking for a replay and find nothing. A match uploaded here stays in your account after the client has thrown its copy away, so a game from three months ago is still there to be looked at.

It is also not tied to a machine. The match opens in a browser, on whatever you are sitting at.

How it compares to the in-client viewer

VALORANT has a replay viewer of its own now, and it is good at what it does. It gives you a free camera in the actual game engine, which is the right tool for looking at a specific fight from a specific angle just after it happened.

This is a different thing. It is a top-down record of the whole match that persists, that you can compare against other matches, and that produces numbers. Use the client for a rewatch. Use this when you want the match to still exist next month, or when the question is about a pattern rather than a moment.

Nothing is guessed from video

The playback is drawn from the replay file itself, not from a recording. A .vrf holds the recorded network stream of the match, so positions and view angles are read out of it rather than estimated from pixels. When a player is shown standing somewhere, the file said so.

That is also why the other team is visible at all. There is no camera here to have been pointed the wrong way.

Getting started

1. Find the replay in %LOCALAPPDATA%\VALORANT\Saved\Demos. See what is a .vrf file if that folder is not where you expected.
2. Make a free account. One replay a day, no card.
3. Upload the file and wait a few minutes.

Beyond watching
